Kuban Environmentalist Suren Ghazaryan Put On Interpol Wanted List

Moscow Bureau of Interpol disseminated a request to arrest Suren Ghazaryan. As Suren Ghazaryan’s lawyer Alexander Popkov stated the request lays down data about Ghazaryan, including his fingerprints, as well as information about his relatives. By the way, Ghazaryan has a status of a political refugee.

“Undertaking these actions Russia tries to prove that the opponents to the current authorities will be caught worldwide and they can’t hide anywhere,” Popkov thinks.

Meanwhile the lawyer noted that the charter of the Interpol “directly bans to persecute political refugees.” “I think Moscow Bureau was not entitled to disseminate a request for Ghazaryan.”

Reminder: in November 2011 a group of civil activists held a protest demonstration near the residence associated with Cuban Governor Alexander Tkachov’s name.

In summer 2012 environmentalists Suren Ghazaryan and Evgeny Vitishko were sentenced to three years in prison with two years on probation. Later another criminal case was initiated against Ghazaryan, which made him leave Russia and ask for a political refuge in Estonia.
