Domestic political processes connected with formation of authority structures after the parliamentary issues in 2012 influences on the participation of Armenia in the UN Conference of Sustainable Development 'Rio+20'. As it is known, the main topics of the summit are green policy, sustainable development and combating poverty.

The level of delegations is more than diverse. Maybe it depends on what the countries expect from the summit and what kind of issues it intends to solve. Thus, the Russian delegation is headed by PM Dmitriy Medvedev, delegation of Turkmenistan by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. The Armenian delegation is headed by Foreign Affairs Minister Edward Nalbandian. Nature Protection Ministry is represented by Nature Protection First Deputy Minister Simon Papyan.

In his speech the Minister Edward Nalbandian particularly mention that at present Armenia is actively cooperating with international organizations in environmental matters in the frames of 22 declarations and protocols. “The significant part of Millennium Declaration is devoted to interaction of safety and sustainability. In this regard, the government committed itself to make all the efforts to liberate nations from military disasters. In this context, the race of armaments threatens not only the peace and safety, but also to sustainable development. Unfortunately, our region couldn’t keep out of such threats.

Today we witness unprecedented increase in the military budget of neighbouring Azerbaijan.  The militant image adopted by the top leadership of Azerbaijan is a real threat to the regional security,” the Minister outlined.
