Green Armenia's Walkathon will be held in Glendale, US, on September 22, 2013 dedicated to the Armenian Independence Day Celebration. The walk starts from Glendale City Hall and ends at Verdugo Park. The initiator is Green Armenia Environmental Group established by the Armenian environmental activists in Southern California. The walk is about 2 miles and takes about an hour.

Walkers donate $20 and receive a T-shirt with Green Armenia Logo. “The funds raised from different fundraising events will be used toward organizing events to raise awareness regarding environmental issues in Armenia in the US, more specifically Southern CA,” environmentalist Angineh Shahnazarian told EcoLur and mentioned that most of the funds raised will be used to help environmental activists in Armenia who are directly working on the issues. We are also going to fund other environmental activities that are taking place in Armenia.

Its mission is preserving the natural environment of Armenia and Artsakh, and working toward its rehabilitation, attaining sustainable use of natural resources, eliminating and preventing any activities that could adversely impact the environment.

Under her, the idea of creating Green Armenia was born when a few of the current members visited Armenia faced a number of environmental in different parts of Armenia in 2012. “There are environmental issues resulting from mining in different parts of Armenia, especially Teghut. They noticed the high birth defect rates, water pollution, and habitat loss in those areas and how the residents are suffering from uncontrolled mining activities. It became a reason for them to return to the US and share their experience, thus GreenArmenia was founded in 2013,” Angineh said.
