According to the latest data, 188 small HPPs are operated in Armenia, the vast majority with violations of the law. What is the reason? Suspicious permits to build hydropower plants on rivers have been issued for years and have not been further verified as to whether the operator maintains the fish passway specified in the project or has built a fish passway to prevent the river from drying up and from destroying the ecosystem.
The fast-flowing rivers of Armenia are suitable for receiving electricity, and this branch of renewable energy is encouraged, except that due to numerous illegalities, some of the rivers are no longer rehabilitated.
The hydropower plants and their owners are presented in Ani Ohanyan's report.
