Talin Community Becoming Solar Energy Development Center in Armenia

Talin community in Aragatsotn Region, Armenia, becomes the center of solar energy development of Armenia, becoming a participant in the global processes of climate change and reduction of greenhouse gases.

Six industrial solar photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 26.953 MW are already producing electricity in Talin community. Seven more solar plants are under construction, including Armenia's largest "Aig 1" solar photovoltaic plant with a total capacity of 225.85 MW.

Along with the development of solar energy in the community, a new problem has arisen - the reduction of agricultural lands. About 630 hectares of land have been allocated for the construction of solar plants. The construction project of the largest 200MW solar power plant "Aig-1" is implemented by "Masdar Armenia" Company with a 15% shareholding of "Armenian National Interest Fund" CJSC operating under RA government.

The station will be built on 547.31 hectares in the territories of Talin and Dashtadem settlements of Talin enlarged community. 450,000 photovoltaic panels will be installed in the area of the station. The total investment cost of the project is 200 million USD.

According to "Aig 1", the EIA report program will contribute to the fulfillment of Armenia's international obligations regarding mitigation of the consequences of climate change. Meanwhile, the document mentions general approaches about the role of solar energy in mitigating climate change.

The cadastral value of the lands donated for "Aig-1" project, based on the decision of RA Government No. 1021-A of June 18, 2021, amounts to about 1 billion 790 million AMD in the event that "Masdar Armenia" company and RA state budget the amount allocated to the community is 1 billion 20 million AMD. In other words, about 770 million AMD less than the land cadastral value.

Talin community is highly vulnerable to climate change.

Considering the RA government's policy of combating climate change and the development of renewable energy, which is why the privileges granted to "Aig-1" project are conditioned, it is necessary to direct the money allocated to Talin community to climate change adaptation and mitigation programs.
