On September 20, “EcoLur” Informational NGO sent a package of legislative and institutional recommendations to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan, Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, and Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan. These recommendations relate to the introduction of socially and environmentally responsible practices in the policies of the energy and climate change sectors.
The recommendations were developed within the framework of “Affected Communities and Civil Society Organizations as Participants in Introduction of Socio-Ecological Culture in Armenia's Energy and Climate Change Policies” project.
In a letter dated October 4 (No. 5/2/178979-24), Armen Mkrtchyan, Head of Department of Strategic Planning, Policy Development, and Monitoring of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated:
"I inform you that the document entitled 'Legislative and Institutional Recommendations for the Introduction of a Culture of Socially and Environmentally Responsible Practices in the Energy and Climate Change Sectors' (hereafter referred to as the Document) has been studied by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Document addresses crucial contemporary issues that are directly related to the Climate Change Adaptation Agenda defined by the Paris Agreement, as well as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, interconnected with the Sustainable Development Goals. The Ministry of Internal Affairs plays a key role in the measures implemented in these areas.
The changes proposed by the Document are cross-sectoral and concern not only the Ministry of Internal Affairs but also several other departments (particularly the Ministries of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Environment).
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, within its scope of authority, is ready to participate in further discussions and work aimed at addressing the raised issues and finding solutions."
