The largest solar power plant in Armenia, Masrik-1, has officially been commissioned, according to an announcement by Shtigen on its official Facebook page. The construction of the Masrik-1 plant took approximately 11 months and spans an area of 130 hectares. With a capacity of 62 MW, the solar plant is expected to generate 128 GWh of electricity annually.
“We share this news with immense joy, as tremendous effort was invested in this project - not merely to build a solar plant, but to contribute to the strengthening of Armenia’s energy security system,” the post by Shtigen says.
Currently, Masrik-1 stands as the largest solar power plant ever built in Armenia.
The plant was constructed in Mets Masrik village, within Vardenis community of Gegharkunik Region, located in the central part of the Masrik plain. The Masrik-1 project is implemented by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures B.V. (FRV) in partnership with China Armenia Engineering as the contractor. Construction work was carried out by Shtigen.
The development of this plant originally began in 2018 but experienced delays due to various reasons. EcoLur has explored and documented the history of Masrik-1 project, which you can read here.
