Babken Tunyan, Member of the National Assembly of Armenia and Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, posted on his Facebook page that Armenia will soon reach its goal of increasing the share of solar energy production to 15% of the country's total electricity generation balance.
Tunyan noted that according to the Government Program, by 2026, the share of electricity generated from solar power plants is expected to reach 15%.
According to the MP’s data, the growth in recent years has been as follows:
* 2021: 2.2%
* 2022: 4.2%
* 2023: 6.8%
* 2024: 8.7%
* 2025 (first half): 12.6%
“This means we are already close to the target figure, and I am confident that next year we will reach 15%. Moreover, the target capacity for solar energy — 1,000 MW — has already been achieved ahead of schedule.
Currently, we have more than 1,000 MW of installed solar capacity, which exceeds our strategic target.
Therefore, the logic of supporting the construction of new solar plants is changing, with the emphasis now placed on increasing energy storage capacity.
I discussed this, along with our programs and developments in the energy sector, yesterday at the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly’s Standing Committee on Energy Security, as a member of the Armenian delegation,” Tunyan posted.
