On 20 June, in the frames of 'Support to SHPP-relating reforms through the dialogue of public and RA Nature Protection Ministry for Sustainable Use of River Ecosystems” project, the working team paid a visit to Martz River, where you can find ''Martziget SHPP 2'' and ''Martziget SHPP 1'' SHPPs after each other. In a distance of several meters you can find 'Pozitron' SHPP, which operates on the Sarajur Tributary to the Martz River.
''Martziget SHPP 2'' and ''Martziget SHPP 1'' SHPPs. A total of 10630 meters of the Martz River has been pipes, which makes up 36.65% of the river. As the distance between the SHPPs is not much, the river comes out of pipe and this gets into another, thus losing ecosystem balance.
Martz Village is under the impact of the aforementioned three SHPPs. 'Three SHPPs have already been constructed on our river and in the area of our village, let the electricity be a little cheaper... Fish in the river has disappeared...In the summer there is no water left in the river for the children to swim in the river: we have lost our resort area...' Martz villagers said.
In reply to the question what kind of social programs are implemented for the village , Martz Village Head Robert Galstyan said, '''Martziget SHPP 1'' SHPP spent 3 million AMD and carried lighting in the central street of Martz, and promised to provide 1 million AMD to the community in the upcoming years.' Under the village head, 'Pozitron' SHPP provides symbolic funds for monument reconstruction or buying gifts to schoolchildren.
EcoLur -How do you use Martz River?
Village Head Robert Galstyan - Only children use the river in the summer for swimming, leisure time and cattle for drinking the water.
EcoLur -Isn’t there water for swimming in the summer?
Village Head Robert Galstyan - Water in the summer is enough for everyone.
EcoLur -Do problems arise during irrigation season?
Village Head Robert Galstyan - We do not have irrigation areas at al.
EcoLur - And how do you irrigate your orchards?
Village Head Robert Galstyan - We irrigate our orchards with drinking water if it meets our demands.
