Vorotan Hydropower Plant Complex will increase the price of the electricity sold to ENA by 4 AMD, as “Contour Global” Armenian representative Ara Hovsepyan, the new owner of Vorotan Hydropower Plant Complex told the journalists, during the media tour held on 12 October. “Determining the price has been one of the main pints of the sale transaction. In this particular case, the arranged price will remain unchanged till February 2016. Then in Febuay it will increase once, 9 AMD for one kilowatt will be changed to 13.2 AMD, which won’t be changed for 25 years. This is our price to the ENA,” he said.
In reply to journalists’ question what kind of impact the increase in electricity price by Vorotan Hydropower Plant Complex will have on the price of the electricity for the citizen, Ara Hovsepyan mentioned that this price is set by the Public Service Regulatory Committee and nobody can say individually what kind of impact individual price increase will have on the total price of the electricity.
The company bought Vorotan Hydropower Plant Complex at US $180 million and Ara Hovsepyan noted that 50% of the money – US $ 90 million has already been paid through making a transfer to “Vorotan Hydropower Plant Complex” CJSC, which is 100% owned by the Armenian Government. The rest 50% will be paid by 30 July 2016.
In economist Vahagn Khachatryan’s opinion, at least US $ 900 million is needed to construct a station with 403 MW capacity nowadays. According to him, the buyer of Vorotan Hydropower Plant Complex is completely interested in the price package.
