In the framework of the project entitled “Support to SHPP-relating Reforms Through the Dialogue of Public and RA Nature Protection Ministry for Sustainable Use of River Ecosystems” EcoLur visited borderline Lernadzor community in Syunik Region. Lernadzor has 634 residents, and their source of income is agriculture and cattle breeding.
“We cultivate everything, but we don’t have any market for sales,” Lernadzor resident said. According to the resident, the SHPP located in the community area doesn’t make problems with the irrigation, but the SHPP noise is rather high, but they have already got used to it.
In reply to the question whether their opinion was taken into consideration when constructing the SHPP, the resident said, “They didn’t ask us, it’s the state which constructs the SHPP, what can you tell them?”
Another community resident mentioned that if the private business has SHPP constructed in their area, the community should benefit from it, “If this business is private, let them do something for the community. If it’s in our area, let them make the electricity cheaper,” the resident said and added, “If they allowed me, I would take out a loan and construct my own SHPP for my own needs not to pay so much for the electricity.”
