EcoLur’s “Support to New Reforms in SHPP Sector through SCO-Government Dialogue” project has launched starting from 1 November. This project is the logical continuation of “Support to SHPP-relating reforms through the dialogue of public and RA Nature Protection Ministry for Sustainable Use of River Ecosystems”.
Reminder: In 2014-2016 EcoLur together with Nature Protection Ministry monitored 87 SHPPs constructed on 47 rivers in Armenia under 78 criteria. The exert group of the project developed a sample of SHPP eco-passport and submitted it to RA Nature Protection Ministry.
The new project plans to supplement SHPP databases by monitoring 35 more SHPPs. A permanent forum will be established for the cooperation of SHPP-related social, state and business sectors, as well as “National Policy and Programme on SHPP Sector Development” will be developed, which will include environmental measures, components of institutional development and legal field improvement aimed at the preservation of river ecosystems.
Two projects are supported by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme.
Recently “EcoLur” Informational NGO President, coordinator of both projects Inga Zarafyan discussed the activities of the new project during the working meeting with Nature Protection Minister Artsvik Minasyan. Nature Protection Minister valued the outcomes of the project activities and mentioned that they will be used to develop proposals on the current state of water usage permits and operational licenses of SHPP and will be submitted to the Armenian Government.
The material was developed in the frames of “Supporting new reforms in SHPP sector through CSO-government dialogue” supported by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme".
