Getik and Karatoprak Rivers flow in Aygut Village, Gegharkounik Region, but the villagers can’t use the waters of the rivers, as there is no irrigation network. The village having about 1000 villagers mainly lives on the cattle breeding, while several people are employed at two SHPPs constructed in the administrative area of the village. “We mainly irrigate our land areas with brooklets flowing down the mountains and drinking water. The river is located up the river, and we need pumping station, but we are experiencing financial problems and we need funds,” Aygut Village Head Mkhitar Karapetyan told EcoLur and added, “Irrigation system is a must for our village. People will be able to deal with agriculture and earn their living.”

There are no conflicts with SHPPs operating in the administrative area of the village. “Each SHPP has 3-4 people employed, which is rather significant for such a small village. Besides, the HPP located downwards ensure lighting of the village center at night. If some funds are needed as aid, for example, for school, they don’t reject and help us,” the village head said.

In their turn, Aygut villagers mentioned that SHPPs don’t make any problems in the village. What about the sanitary state of the river and fish reserves, Village Head Mkhitar Karapetyan said, “It requires specialized studies, but in any case, there is impact on the fish reserves and they will get reduced. It’s my opinion.”
