In Lori Region, 18 forest officials, foresters and engineers have been charged under Article 315, Part 2 and Article 314, Part 1 of RA Criminal Code, as the official website of RA Prosecutor's Office informs.
The charges were brought in the framework of the preliminary investigation of criminal cases initiated in connection with illegal logging in 2021.
Not performing their official duties properly, the officials did not regularly inspect the guard posts under their control and drew up false forest violation reports on non-compliance with illegal logging. As a result, a total of 943 trees of different diameters were cut down, which caused a particularly large damage to the flora and fauna, amounting to more than 31 million AMD.
