RA Ministry Environment proposes to establish Environmental Protection Service. The package of draft law "On Environmental Protection Service of the Republic of Armenia" has been put into circulation on the unified website for the publication of draft legal acts.
The draft law envisages the reduction of 506 positions of foresters and 345 inspectors of specially protected natural areas of "ArmForest" SNCO, and, instead of them, establishing Environmental Protection Service consisting of 1217 positions, which will operate 24 hours a day.
According to the draft law, the establishment of a new service will ensure continuous surveillance of the territories and will contribute to the timely detection and prevention of violations.
The draft law separated the functions of forest conservation and protection. The Environmental Protection Service is entrusted exclusively with the function of forest protection, the implementation of complex measures against fires, arbitrary encroachments, illegal felling, grazing, pollution, and other actions that harm forest biodiversity prohibited by law. The function of protection is entrusted to "ArmForest" SNCO.
