"National Progress" faction Yerevan’s Aldermen’s Council proposes to sign a public memorandum on the environmental and greening issues of Yerevan. The manifesto was discussed on November 10, 2023, in Yerevan City Hall.
"According to the data of 2018, we are 5 times less provided with green spaces for general use in Yerevan. In the spring of this year, a mass felling of trees was carried out in Yerevan, during which young trees were also felled,” Kristina Vardanyan, a member of Yerevan’s Aldermen’s Council of "National Progress" faction, Associate Professor of Department of Hygiene and Ecology of Yerevan State Medical University said.
Lilit Sahakyan, Director of the Center for Ecological Noosphere Studies of NAS RA, noted that Yerevan has been scientifically declared for 20 years as a polluted bio-geochemical anthropogenic system, and all our urban planning problems should begin to consider this objective reality.
Sargis Tovmasyan, Dr. in Architecture, spoke about the structure of Yerevan's territory. According to international norms, the areas of general use in cities should be 20 percent, and in Yerevan, including the areas of non-existent forests, they should be barely 10 percent.
Kristina Vardanyan offered to join this memorandum. The manifesto is open for joining with the deadline of November 30, which will be then submitted to Yerevan Municipality. Nevertheless, this declaration has no legal force, it is advisory.
