Armenia's Largest Grant from Germany for Sustainable Development of Biodiversity

Armenia received the largest grant in its history in the amount of 26 million 208 thousand 483 euros for the implementation of the 6-year-long project "Biodiversity and sustainable local development in Armenia", which is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Cooperation and Development through the KfW bank.

On September 27, the kick-off meeting of "Biodiversity and Protected Areas" component of the Project was held. RA Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meimaryan emphasized the importance of preservation and restoration of biodiversity in his welcome speech.

Zara Chatinyan, the representative of the Armenian Office of the German Development Bank (KfW), noted that this project is one of the most important ones in terms of financial cooperation between Germany and Armenia.

Levon Aghasyan, Director of the Armenian branch of WWF-Armenia, noted that the project started in July 2024 and will make a significant contribution to the preservation of Armenia's biodiversity.

Gavin Bell, the Chief Technical Adviser of "Biodiversity and Protected Areas" component of the project, presented the main objectives of the project to the participants of the meeting.

Karen Manvelyan, Team Lead of "Biodiversity and Protected Areas" component of the project, presented the main activities and expected results of the component. He mentioned the need to adjust the cadastral borders of the protected areas, as well as to expand the borders of specially protected areas and include additional areas.
