On May 2, Ijevan Aarhus Centre initiated tree planting activity at the10th km sector of the Ijevan-Noyemberyan interstate highway, aiming at restoring thinning out parkway, as well as making it larger. We got informed that some gardeners of Aknaghbyur village negligently have damaged enormous trees of the area.
The avenue exists for several tens of years. It’s the one of the most beautiful in Armenia and especially in the hot of summer rescues the road of direct rays of the sun. If in previous years the existence of thick trunk trees do not interfere with anyone, this year during agricultural work some gardeners of Aknakhbyur burning dry grass and blackberry bushes reduced to the ashes also several walnut-trees. As a result some trees had been got dry and felled. At the roadside about two kilometers longwise had been planted 300 walnuts with participation of the Aarhus Centre, employees of the Ijevan forestry, students of higher educational institutions and residents of Khashtarak and Aknaghbyur communities.
The Environmental Protection Department of Tavush marzpetaran and Ijevan municipality assisted to the initiative. Unfortunately, the same gardeners, which had caused damage to the parkway, did not participate in tree planting, thus showing that they are indifferent to the problems caused by them. At the upcoming days the center will organize a discussion serving as a mediator in relevant explanatory works carrying out with the local residents. Ijevan Aarhus Centre is going to take steps "to prevent such impunity."
