Yeghegnout Forest Left without Owner

It’s more than 10 years since there has been no forestry head or forestry officer in Yeghegnout Village. The forestry enterprise of Yeghegnut Village is located in the territory of Gougark Forestry. The village is surrounded with 5005 ha of forest-covered territory. “ArmForest” SNCO specialists have divided the forest surrounding Yeghegnout into 5 sections so as to have at least 5 forestry officers and 1 forestry head.

Yeghegnout Village Head Misha Hovhannisyan says none of the villagers agrees to work as a forestry officer, even if only 50 people are employed out of 1000 villagers, while young people prefer to find work abroad rather than to work as a forestry officer. The reason is that whoever works as a forestry officer, eventually turns out to be in court, as they can’t control the territory completely and have to bear responsibility for illegal felling.
