EcoLur has received an alarm signal that the pine forests surrounding “Sotchut” dendropark in Stepanavan, Lori Region, are being felled down. In the spring the pine forests in south and east parts were cut down, while now northern and north-eastern parts of are being felled down. “The forest is being felled down without feeling sorry, during the daytime the pines are taken out of the forest,” the alarm beater said, who wished to remain incognito. In reply to the question whether s/he can provide photos, the latter answered no, as their security is not ensured.
In the phone talk with “ArmForest” SNCO Director Martun Matevosyan, he said he had visited the area two days before and met with the dendropark employees. “We have planned sanitary gelling in the area adjacent to dendropark, around 200 cum. But as the concerns with the dendropark are rather high, I have ordered to stop the felling,” Martun Matevosyan said.
EcoLur is drawing attention to the fact that the trees subject to sanitary felling shall be marked with special seals, which trace remain both on the stub and the trunk of the cut down tree. We would like to ask all people in charge of forest monitoring to pay special attention to the presence of the seal. As the forests are currently felled down for the winter, call us at 091 92 12 64 or e-mail at [email protected] mentioning the spots of felling.
