On August 2, RA Administrative Court returned the claim filed by Vayots Dzor Regional Administration against. The Regional Administration demanded that the court declare decision No. 44 of Gladzor Aldermen’s Council “On Turning the Gladzor Community into an Eco-Economic Area and Prohibiting Metal Mining in the Community” dated on 29.04.2019 as invalid.
In her interview with EcoLur, Nazeli Vardanyan noted that the Law on Local Self-Governments states that the competent authorities and state authorities can exercise professional and legal control. “The governor is not a state authorized body in that sphere and he could not control that. This could have been done by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development,” she said.
Vayk Metal Company, which wanted to exploit Gladzor polymetallic mine, wanted to carry out mining activities in Gladzor. However, the application was rejected by the Ministry of Nature Protection. According to Nazeli Vardanyan, "If the community council approves the petition, measures must be taken to make the petition claims a reality. We must do everything to keep the area mine-free and eco-friendly," Nazeli Vardanyan said.
