On October 27, new photos of the muddy Voghji River were posted on Facebook social network. David Hakobyan, a representative of “Guides from the South” NGO, posted a photo of the polluted river. “I just returned from the Geghi River. There were also Environmental and Mining Inspection staff. The water was clear there. The turbulent stream was flowing into the Voghji River from the tunnel of the Jrakhor HPP. It turned out that the HPP was cleaning up the tailings tunnel as a result of the ZCMC tailings dam, which caused turbidity in the Voghji River.”
It should be reminded that the Artsvanik tailing dump of Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine CJSC was damaged on October 17, when the Voghji River was polluted with industrial waste water. RA Environmental and Mining Inspection inspected the site, recorded the facts, sampled the contaminated water, and commissioned the company to carry out works to eliminate the consequences of the accident. RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan stated at the October 17 Government session on the incident that investigative actions are being conducted.
