Mets Ayrum Residents Suspended Attempt of Akhtala OPC To Increase Dam of Nahatak Tailing Dump

On April 13, 2020, Akhtala Ore Processing Combine CJSC attempted to raise the dam of Nahatak tailing dump in Mets Ayrum Village, Lori Region. Upon the demand of the villagers, the work was stopped.

Oleg Dulgaryan, Head of Community Mobilization and Support Center NGO, beat an alarm signal about thisn his Facebook page about the increase in the dam. "The residents of Mets Ayrum Village inform that at the moment in Mets Ayrum Village, "Akhtala OPC" company is raising the observation tower on the bank of the tailings dump. Prior to that, the company promised the residents of the community that it would no longer carry out the raising of the dam, but would start the process of reclaiming the tailing dump.”

Arthur Mikoyan, a resident of Mets Ayrum, told EcoLur that it was possible to stop the illegal work of the company as a result of the people's unanimous opposition.

Reminder: based on the verdict of Public Environmental Court, the Department of State Interests Protection of General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia initiated an investigation into the continuous impact of Nahatak tailing dump on the environment and human health.
