"3 Million AMD Is Too Little To Solve Environmental Problems in Akhtala": Oleg Dulgaryan

Environmental and health measures will be discussed in the enlarged community of Akhtala on June 5, 2010. The sum of 3,848,000 AMD envisaged for these events arose from the environmental payments made by "Akhtala Ore Processing Plant" CJSC.

Oleg Dulgaryan, President of Center for Community Mobilization and Support NGO, told EcoLur that the Akhtala community has serious environmental problems. "There is an ecological disaster in Akhtala. Problems can only be mitigated or at least partially resolved if large sums of money are available. And the money given is disproportionate to the scale of those problems. My suggestion is that the money be directed to the utilization and reclamation of abandoned facilities.
