

The residents of five settlements of Spitak consolidated community in Lori Region, Armenia, demand from RA Environment Ministry to issue a negative conclusion from the local government of Spitak Community on conducting geological exploration of mines in gold-polymetallic (for mineral extraction) mines in Hankakutak and its adjacent areas in Lori Region for 2022-2025 submitted by “Hayasa Resources Corp” LLC Hayasa Resources Corp.
The residents of Gogaran, Sarahart, Shenavan, Shirakamut and Lernavan settlements and the representatives of the civil society failed the first public discussion of the program in Gogaran settlement, Spitak Community on April 7. They held a signature collection which states, “We, the residents of Gogaran, Sarahart, Shenavan, Shirakamut and Lernavan settlements in Lori Region, connect the development and preservation of our community with "green" economy, tourism, afforestation, proper management of water resources.
We demand from RA Environment Ministry to issue a negative conclusion to the geological study plan for conducting geological exploration of mines in gold-polymetallic (for mineral extraction) mines in Hankakutak and its adjacent areas in Lori Region for 2022-2025.
Gogaran administrative representative Volodya Palajyan told EcoLur that the opinion of the residents was passed to Spitak community hall.
The former head of Gogaran community Arthur Galoyan mentioned that the gold mining program will endanger the drinking water sources and pastures of the settlement.
