The initiative group opposing the exploration and development of Gladzor polymetallic mine has disseminated a statement addressed to the residents of Vayots Dzor.
The statement highlights:
- With global climate change, the rational management of water resources has become a vital necessity.
- Vayots Dzor is highly vulnerable to climate change, experiencing a reduction in water resources. Due to the lack of reservoirs, vast amounts of water flow out of the country.
- Mining operations pose a threat to agricultural, eco-tourism, and hospitality businesses.
"Dear residents of Vayots Dzor, we must reach a decision. Can we live next to mines in our beautiful homeland, or will we be forced to leave our homes, abandoning our ancestors' graves and sacred sites? A local referendum is necessary to decide."
