The Initiative Group fighting against iron mine development in Hrazdan has arranged a meeting with environmentalists-specialists.
Water Resources specialist Qnarik Hovhannnisyan said around 35-40% of drinking water for Yerevan comes from Hrazdan: “There are different types of springs such as Solak, Katnaghbyur etc, these springs derive from the beginning of the Hrazdan River and spread across the whole riverbed: This hazard is actual not only for the region, but also for Yerevan. Hrazdan River will be polluted, Ararat Valley will be polluted from where we get our food, why land specialists have already voiced that around 80% of Ararat Valley land areas have lost their significance,” Qnarik Hovhannnisyan said.
