Meghri area is currently experiencing serious problems, where Agarak copper and molybdenum combine and Litchqavaz-Tey and Terterasar mines are operating.

Under the data by Hakob Sanasaryan, Chairman of Greens Union of Armenia, around 18 new licenses for mines have been issued within this area, “These mines are factually mine demonstrations.”

So-called “mines” have gold, silver, copper, molybdenum and other elements, but with low concentration, and if these mines are exposed to taxation, as the other fields of economy, they won’t be profitable, but they won’t even cover the expenses.

Under his assessment, if the mines in Meghri are developed, Meghri area together with Meghri river shall be excluded from the land areas of economic significance: if these mines are developed (several has already started operating), Meghri River will be the first to pollute, which is the only irrigation source in the area. Even now you can find any frog or even warm in the river, though the metallic mines developed in the valley of Meghri River are a few with small volumes. If now we speak about hundred tons of ore processing, this figure can make missions in upcoming years.
