Mining pressure on "Zangezur" Biosphere Complex is increasing. "Geghi Gold" and "Ler-Ex" companies intend to dig for minerals in the basin of the River Geghi on the territory of "Zangezur" state reserve.
There is a clear requirement in the regulations of the reserve, "In the preservation zone of the reserve any economic activity threatening the stability of ecosystems, protection of flora and fauna representatives, and other objects of scientific or historical and cultural value is prohibited".
Reminder: this year an application was introduced to environmental expertise to do geological study in Teghout area of Aygedzor copper and molybdenum mine of "Tatstone" LLC in order to extract minerals according to which certain search areas match with those of "Arevik" national park.
"Tatstone" LLC also introduced to environmental expertise the EIA exploitation report of Lichq copper mine according to which Lichq copper opencast mine must be only 780 meters far from"Arevik" national park.
