“Dundee Precious Metals Kapan” CJSC has issued a claim to court to appeal the fine of 3.8 billion AMD imposed by Finance Ministry, as General Manager Hrach Jabrayan said in his interview with EcoLur and outlined that two preliminary court hearings have already been held, the third will be held in May. “Dundee Precious Metals Kapan” CJSC is developing Shahumyan gold and polymetallic mine. Below is the interview with Hrach Jabrayan.
EcoLur: Mr. Jabrayan, first the Nature Protection Ministry imposed a fine of 380 million AMD on the company (in October 2013), then the Finance Ministry imposed a fine in the amount of 3.8 billion AMD. It seems that black clouds have covered Dundee, so what’s the reason, in your opinion?
Hrach Jabrayan: I wouldn’t say that black clouds have covered Dundee, I would say that black clouds have covered business and I am really concerned about it. As it turned out the act of the Nature Protection Ministry was incorrect, as the inspections they carried out were wrong. As you know, the act for 380 million AMD was reduced to 30 million AMD, as incorrect articles were referred to, articles which had no connection with mining areas, but agricultural areas. What about this act, to tell the truth, I don’t know their mood, but I have no doubt that we will win the case in court.
EcoLur: What about the news that your business is sought to be taken from you.
Hrach Jabrayan: If there is such desire, I’m willing to sell my business at a normal price, no problem. But to tell the truth, I have read such info only in the newspapers, nothing official.
EcoLur: You said earlier, if this money is confiscated, you will close down your business. Is your decision final?
Hrach Jabrayan: My position is final. I said many times in my interview in the news and told the same the Finance Minister and the Armenian President. If this money is confiscated, I will close down the business the next day, as this business is not that profitable to work without profit and to wait to make it and to pay such unfair fines. It will be a business decision.
