On December 1 the discussion of socio-environmental problems was held at Qajaran Aarhus Center in Qajaran Village in regard with Government Decision 627-N dated on 28 April 2011. In accordance with this decision, 181.7 ha of land areas owned by the community were recognized as eminent domain and transferred to Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine for the development of molybdenum reserves. Qajaran Villagers are not satisfied with interim decisions in the form of compensations, or for example, the proposal to move aside the border of the mine from village cemetery by 150-200 m. “Please, visit us on the spot and watch yourself. If the mine is opened, everything will be covered with dust…We won’t have to leave our houses…We are turning into forced displaced persons. We won’t give our land and are ready to defend it with our blood…” Such statements were heard in the course of discussions made by village representatives.

Villagers hope that Cronimet Company has accepted the invitation to take part in the discussion and has drawn up an appeal to this company. But, unfortunately, Cronimet Company representatives didn’t turn up and Qajaran Villagers made it public in the course of discussions. The letter particularly says, “We are not going to leave our houses. Our hometown can’t have any price. It’s priceless and even compensation can’t make us change our intention. We are ready to defend our holy places by our blood. ”
