“Valodya Grigoryan” LLC Intends to Develop Ajapnyak Dolerite Basalt Mine in Opencast Manner in Yerevan

“Valodya Grigoryan” LLC intends to develop in opencast manner Ajapnyak dolerite-basalt mine near the western border of Ajapnyak community in Yerevan.

The public hearings on the environmental impact assessment of the mining project is planned to be held at 12:00 on 28 November at 54/157 Komitas Avenue, Yerevan.

The area of the open pit will make up 0.84 ha. It’s planned to mine basalt mass to produce basalt facing blocks, as well as construction gravel chippings and sand. The annual productivity of the open pit will make up 2750 m3 dolerite mine basalt mass. The total volume of ore will make up 66.800 m3, which will require additional alienation of 1.0 ha for their disposal.

The total volume of wastes will make up 84,300 m3 and around 1.5 ha area will be alienated for their heaping.

It has been estimated that 0.15ton/year dust will be emitted into environment during digging and loading, 0.363ton/year during transportation and 1.4ton/year from warehouse and heap surfaces.

The project doesn’t mention the distance of the open pit with its infrastructures from residential areas.

The mining works are planned to carry out during a five days a day all year round. The mine will be developed for 18 years.

It should be mentioned that as of 1 October 2016 23 soil management permits have been issued for mining in Yerevan.
