The Government of the Republic of Armenia will extend the lifetime of the second power unit of the ANPP until 2036.
"In order to extend the lifetime of the second power unit of the Armenian NPP, the modernization works will be completed to ensure the safe operation of the Armenian NPP until 2026, after which additional investments will be made to extend the lifetime of the second power unit of the nuclear power plant for another 10 years," the program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia says, which was adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on August 26, 2021.
As for the construction of a new nuclear power unit, under the Government program, a program-schedule will be developed as the main strategic goal in Armenia.
Measures dedicated to the hydropower sector are not envisaged in "Energy" section of the Government program, which once again proves that the hydropower resources in Armenia are exhausted. Instead, they will develop solar and wind energy. By 2030, the share of solar energy production will increase to at least 15%.
