EcoLur

As a result of monitoring realized in Vayk town, Azatek community and Azatek gold and polymetallic deposit high background measurements of radiation significantly different from average natural gamma radiation background weren’t recorded. Ashot Martirosyan, chairman of the State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee by the Armenian Government, informed EcoLur about this by letter.

Reminder: based on the complaint of the residents of Vayk EcoLur applied to the ministries of Nature Protection and Health Care of RA and State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee to do researches on Azatek mine. The residents of Vayk made an alarm call that in the mine where drilling works have been done for 2 months, there is uranium and people are afraid of the danger of radiation.

On October 29, 2014, by the order of State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee Karapet Ohanyan, chief specialist on Environmental Radiation Monitoring and Karen Haroyan, leading specialist on radiation safety at Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center conducted radiation monitoring in Vayk town, Azatek community and Azatek gold and polymetallic deposit, as well as on the way from Vayk to Azatek community in which EcoLur took part. According to an official news source 15 points were chosen to measure natural gamma radiation background so that the results received from those points give preliminary imagination about natural gamma radiation background in that area. In the areas where the measurements were done the average values of natural gamma radiation dose power were 0.045μSv/h÷0.08 μSv/h.
