The State Committee on Radiation Safety Regulation by the Armenian Government has responded to EcoLur’s article published on 8 December 2014, which is entitled “Armenia Doesn’t Conduct Monitoring of Environmental Radiation”. It should be mentioned that the whole information has been taken and prepared from the document entitled “Strategy on Radiation Monitoring of Environment”.
The Committee Chairman Ashot Martirosyan’s letter particularly says, “The Republic of Armenia has radiation monitoring database in regard with sampling from the observation sites of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (soil, atmospheric air, water, vegetation, local food etc) and radiation monitoring.” The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant has sufficient number of high-quality equipment and staff, which is one of the requirements of ANPP operation permit.
In 2014 the Committee conducted radiation monitoring of the different objects and adjacent areas.
Then the letter says that the monitoring will be conducted in metal waste collection points in Teghout and Armanis mines in Lori Region, Azatek mine in Vayots Dzor Region, Meghradzor mine in Kotayk Region and Yerevan Thermal Power Plant.
