416 Trees Illegally Cut Down in Lori Region Forests, Damage of 182 Million AMD Caused - 11 Criminal Cases Initiated in Regional Prosecutor's Office

The RA Prosecutor's Office has initiated 11 new criminal cases on the basis of the factual data obtained in the suspended criminal cases and the previously initiated criminal proceedings on illegal logging in Tumanyan and Stepanavan Forestries, as RA Prosecutor's Office informs.

The criminal cases concern the negligent attitude towards the service by a number of officials of the mentioned branches due to non-fulfillment or improper performance of their duties, as a result of which significant damage to the legal interests of the state was caused, and other serious consequences arose.

It turned out that in 2020 numerous cases of deforestation were recorded in 10 guard divisions of several forestry enterprises in Tumanyan and Stepanavan forestries, which recorded a total of 4416 illegally felled tree trunks of different types and diameters. As a result, the flora and the state suffered a particularly large damage, totaling about 182 million AMD.

After getting acquainted with the case materials, it turned out, however, that a large number of illegal tree felling may have been carried out as a result of improper performance of their duties by the relevant competent officials of Tumanyan and Stepanavan Forestries of “ArmForest” SNCO.

At the same time, the regional prosecutor's office submitted a petition to Head of Lori Regional Department of RA Police to take measures to eliminate the circumstances contributing to the crime, including preventing and revealing similar crimes, and to discipline employees who failed in their duties.
