9 Criminal Cases Initiated Based on Illegal Soil Management in Araks Basin Area

Nine criminal cases have been initiated in RA Prosecutor's Office based on the illegal extraction of sand from the Araks River basin and damage to the environment. This issue was raised during a working discussion headed by Acting Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan on July 26, 2021.

Nine criminal cases have been instigated in Department of Protection of State Interests of RA Prosecutor’s Office based on Article 290 (1) - damage to the soil, intentionally or negligently causing significant damage to the environment and Article Article 291 (2) - violation of the rules of soil management, causing significant damage to the subsoil and the minerals contained in it.

The initiated criminal cases recorded cases of illegal extraction of about 312 thousand cubic meters of sand and gravel, which, according to preliminary calculations, caused damage to the state of about 143 million AMD.
