On March 14, 2024, the executive approved the Crop Support Program due to the need to increase the level of self-sufficiency in Armenia, increase the acreage of agricultural crops and increase productivity.
According to the rationale of this resolution, according to the publications of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in recent years, a decrease in the area of spring cereals, legumes and sown crops has been recorded in the republic. In particular, in 2023 as compared to 2020, the sown areas of leguminous crops decreased by around 577 ha, the sown areas of spring barley - by 10,210 ha, spring wheat - by around 180 ha, and the current year's sown area of perennial herbs - by around 567 ha.
As a result of the crop production program, it is expected that the level of food self-sufficiency of the republic will increase, the areas of cultivated arable land will increase by 14,300 hectares.
The beneficiary of the project can be the farmer who cultivates crops with an area of up to 100 ha (excluding land near the house). The maximum sum of the amount of compensation provided to each beneficiary each year cannot exceed 11 million drams. The amount of 50% reimbursement of the costs incurred by each beneficiary will be calculated by the average market prices of the cost of the main works: weeding, sowing, harvesting and seeds per hectare of the cultivated area of the given crop.
