Fuel Oil Spill in the Voghji River: Inspection Body Reports No Water Contamination

On July 17, 2025, a road accident on the Kapan-Kajaran highway resulted in the detachment of a truck trailer, which partially ended up in the Voghji River, causing a fuel oil spill. This information was released by the Inspection Body for Environment and Mining Protection.

According to the agency, its specialists took water and soil samples from the scene. Preliminary results of the laboratory analyses indicate that the fuel oil did not cause significant damage to the environment. This is attributed to its physical characteristics: fuel oil has high viscosity and solidification properties, does not dissolve in water, and is poorly absorbed by soil.

The official statement also notes that cleanup operations are underway to remove the spilled fuel oil. Once the cleanup is complete, follow-up sampling and testing will be conducted.
