On July 7 the Executive approved the regulation “On Procedure of Placing and Concluding Water Meter to Measure Underground Water from Wells” at the government meeting. The official website of the Armenian Government informed “EcoLur” about that.
Armenia has about 5424 wells but taxi meters are mainly not installed on them. According to Nature Protection Ministry, this is the reason why the computation of water resources is not carried out in the right way and it’s impossible to charge the full fee.
It should be mentioned mainly Armavir and Ararat regions are known as exploiters of underground waters where a large number of fish farms are located. According to the official data, there are 147 fish farms in Armavir Region and 87 fish farms in Ararat Region.
Fish farms only use 800 million cubic meters of water per year. As a result, people in Ararat and Armavir complain of water shortage and impossibility to cultivate their land areas.
We also draw government’s decision to another problem which is also very important for the preservation of water resources. We speak about powerful pumps used for fish farms. According to hydro geologists, it’s possible for freshwater and mineral waters to get mixed with each other because of pumps, and the drinking water will become worse.
