The mapping of Zangezour Biospheric Complex will launch in 2016, as Karen Kirakosyan, Direction of 'Zangezour Biospheric Complex' CJSC told EcoLur in his interview.

According to the director, KfW bank intends to make first transfer in February-March 2016. 'These funds are directed not only to Zangezour Biospheric Complex, but this sum also includes socio-economic component for the development of the communities adjacent to the complex. We should help the people and implement such programs aimed at creating workplaces,' Karen Kirakosyan said.

In reply to the question, whether there are mines included within the complex borders, Karen Kirakosyan said, 'There are no mines in our area.'

For our part it should be mentioned that around 60% of Meghrasar gold mine is located within the previous borders of specially protected areas of nature, 'Arevik' National Park, having been included in Zangezour Biospheric Complex, while Litchq copper mine is located only in a distance of 780 meters from 'Arevik' National Park. Moreover, 'Geghi Gold' and 'Ler X' Companies intends to prospect ores in the basin of Geghi River – in the area of 'Zangezour' State Reserve.

Reminder: On 2 July the Armenian Government adopted resolution 731-N, which reduced the area of “Zangezour” Bioshperic Complex by 630.6541 ha, and the areas were particularly reduced from the areas of “Arevik” National Park and “Zangezour” State Reserve included in “Zangezour” Bioshperic Complex.
