From 2005 to 2015, 2031.2 ha littoral lake Sevan area was cleaned, while in 2015-2016 reforestation was carried out in 244.2 ha of areas located under the control of 'Sevan National Park' SNCO.
If the level of Lake Sevan is increased up to 1903.5 meters by 2030, around 4000 ha of forests will find themselves in the lake. EcoLur had adressed an enquiry to Nature Protection Ministry asking them to inform whether how much area has been cleaned from trees and bushes since 2005 and how much money has been allotted from the satte budget for this purpose.
In reply Head of Staff of Nature Protection Ministry Khazhak Aghabekyan informed in writing, 'From 2005 to 2015 the total area cleaned from flooded trees and bushes made up 1734.4 ha, for which the state budget spent 1,043,941 thousand AMD in line with the contracts signed with legal and natural people by 'Sevan National Park' SNCO'. In the frames of GEF – EU pilot project by 'Clima East: Supporting Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Russia and ENP East countries', reforestation works were carried out in 33.2 ha area in the areas under the control of Sevan National Park in 2015-2016, while the National Park itself carried out reforestations in 211 ha in 2005-2016. According to the rpogramme for 2017, cleaning works in 93 ha area is planned costing 125.4 million AMD to be carried out in 2017.
