Criminal Case for Spoiling Soil

EcoLur

The Department for Protection of State Interests of RA Prosecutor's Office has initiated a criminal case on spoiling the soil in the area of Mastara Community thus causing essential damage.

SP Company has carried works on transferring ‘land cover’ of 250,000 cum to use it as filling for road construction. The Department for Protection of State Interests of RA Prosecutor's Office has initiated a criminal case based on Article 290 (1) of RA Criminal Code, and its initial investigation has been passed to RA Criminal Investigative Committee.

We do expect this case to turn into a precedent for the detection of such violations and bringing to justice. EcoLur’s experience shows that the most fertile soil is spoilt by mining companies when developing their infrastructures and mines when millions of tons barren rock and environmentally unfriendly wastes are dumped on the fertile soil making hundreds of hectares of land areas non-usable. According to the expert assessments, one ha of an open mine pollutes 10 ha of area.
