The Geological Museum after Hovhannes Harapetyan of National Academy of Sciences of Armenia again opened its doors on 12 September. The museum was founded in 1937, and now the museum fund has 11,000 artifacts.
Out of 3000 known minerals the museum collection has almost the half, among them amethysts, emeralds, garnets, topaz, turquoise from Teghout and obsidian from Agarak, onyx from Marmarik.
The department of archeology presents remainders of living organisms, while the skeleton of prehistorical archidiskodon trogontherii is the most valuable thing in the collection. The collection is also rich in volcanic ores and minerals. Mineral waters which Armenia is rich in are widely represented there.
