On April 20, EcoLur Press Club hosted a meeting between Geghanist Eco Team members, Inga Zarafyan, President of EcoLur Informational NGO, Christina Ter-Matevosyan, NGO Journalist, and Oleg Dulgaryan, President of Center for Community Consolidation Support.
The team was founded in 2018 by geography teacher, geologist Tigran Yengibaryan at Geghanist Secondary School in Ararat Region. Team members are schoolchildren who try to identify their school-related and then community issues.
During the meeting, the team members presented their main mission and activities. According to them, the primary environmental problems in Geghanist are drinking water pollution, unregulated garbage collection, and cases of stork pollution. They noted that the community is conducting information campaigns to raise issues, but they need to be made available to a wider audience.
Inga Zarafyan informed the representatives of "Geghanist" eco team about the social and environmental problems in Ararat Region. Reference was made to the overexploitation of the groundwater in Ararat Valley, the pollution of the environment due to the operation of the Ararat cyanide factory and tailing dump in Ararat.
