On December 5 the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited the Nature Protection Ministry and had a meeting there. Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan presented the main achievements of the Ministry activities for 2010-2013. Firts Deputy Minister Simon Papyan presented the development perspectives of the nature protection in Armenia from the viewpoint of green economy. Ministry Staff Head Edgar Pirumyan presented the structure of the minisrtry, past and present programs aimed to boost the effectiveness of their activities.

Referring to the activities of the Nature Protection Ministry and the environmental problems the President Serzh Sargsyan mentioned and these problems are naturally focused both by the authorities and the public.

Serzh Sargsyan is sure if everybody doesn’t have attentive and caring attitude towards environmental problems, the ruthless and irrational use of nature can lead to disastrous consequences. When speaking about the illegally used wells and other problems present in thif field the President outlined that the voice of civil society representatives should be heard and it’s within the obligations of the ministry, “I treat these movements very normally, and in general I think that the development of out country can’t sustain without civil society. It would be very short-sight to introduce any kind of limitations here. We are on our way to become an open society and not only the environmentalists, but other organizations will also be heard. I just call ou ministry staff and the representatives of other organizations to refrain from showing off, and if the representatives are from environmental organizations their main task should be to benefit to the environmental problems and not to create new problems for the state.”
