According to the internal information of EcoLur, the range of the fine imposed on Dundee Precious Metals Kapan by the State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry was reduced by 12 times from 360 million AMD to 30 million AMD. Reminder: In reply to EcoLur’s enquiry on 18 November 2013 addressed to the Ministry requesting to inform about the results of the examination carried out at Dundee Precious Metals Kapan Company, as well as to confirm or to deny the information about the fine in the amount of about 360 million AMD (US $900,000), the Nature Protection Ministry avoided to give a direct answer: “…the Ministry publishes all the information in a proper and timely manner on its official website and disseminates it in its press releases…” says the reply of the Ministry to EcoLur’s enquiry http://ecolur.org/en/news/dialog-with-officials/nature-protection-ministry-makes-corrections-to-ecolurvs-reply-letter/5590/).
In its turn, DPMK Director General Hrach Jabrayan also spoke about a fine of US $ 1 million at his meeting with the employers in December motivating his inability to pay holiday premiums with this fine. At the press conference held on 20 December Hrach Jabrayan alleged State Revenue Committee, Energy and Natural Resources Ministry and particularly Nature Protection Ministry and noted he had applied to the Armenian President in regard with the policy run by the Ministry.
For our part we would like to mention that fines are set by the Armenian legislation based on detected violations and damage caused to environment and not given on poor or good relations of the company with top officials.
