Temperature and evaporation increase take place all over the world. Unfavorable climate conditions will also threaten the Republic of Armenia. All our actions will be directed at preventing these problems and in future all the programs will be directed at the accumulation of river flows and reservoir construction, as Mher Mkrtumyan, Head of Staff of State Committee on Water Industry of Agriculture Ministry, said at the press conference held at EcoLur Press Club.

“The water resources we have are mainly centralized in the southern and northern parts, while the resources needed for irrigation are centralized in Ararat Valley. The main problems with irrigation occur in Armavir Region and in Talin, Aragatsotn Region,” Mher Mkrtumyan said.

Under Mher Mkrtumyan, currently State Committee on Water Industry is planning to implement 4 large reservoir construction projects - Vedi, Kaps, Yeghvard and Mastara.

“We have already taken some actions – Kaps reservoir with KfW bank funding, which is planned to be constructed to make it from 25 million cum to 60 million cum, Vedi with the funding of French Development Agency, Yeghvard reservoir, 90 million cum capacity, is planned to be constructed with the support of Japanese Government,” Mher Mkrtumyan said.
