The Sevan Trout Reserve Recovery and Fish Breeding Foundation is unaware the operation of which private cage net fish farming economy was stopped in Lake Sevan. It should be reminded that the former RA Environment Minister Erik Grigoryan mentioned this in his two-year activity report.
The cage net fish farming economies in Lake Sevan are under the auspices of the Sevan Trout Reserve Recovery and Fish Breeding Foundation. EcoLur has addressed questions to the Foundation:
· Which private cage net fish farming economy was stopped in Lake Sevan, when and on what grounds?
· Do "Sevan Trout" and "Sevan Aqua" CJSCs continue their activities or not?
· How many cage nets are there in Lake Sevan currently? How many tons of fish are currently being raised in each cage net?
· How many small fish were released into Lake Sevan in 2019, how many were released in 2020, or how many letouts are planned this year?
· What kind of environmental measures has the Foundation taken in the last two years?
Foundation CEO Vardan Mamikonyan has replied to the questions in his letter no. 02/5 dated on 08.05.2020, which says:
“We would like to inform you that we do not have any information on the termination of the private cage net fish farming economy in Lake Sevan mentioned in Point 19 of the two-year activity report submitted by RA former Environment Minister Erik Grigoryan.
There are 12 cage nets in the economy owned by "Sevan Aqua" CJSC, in which 250 tons of Gegharkunik and summer trout weighing 80-4000 grams on average are grown.
In 2019, the first batch of the summer subspecies of Sevan trout young fish was released with an average weight of 22.5 grams, about 11,000 (eleven thousand) and about 40,000 (forty thousand) small fish weighing 3.5 grams of Gegharkuni subspecies. Then, the second batch of small fish was released, with an average weight of about 11,000 (eleven thousand) grams of 21.5 grams of summer trout and about 10,000 (ten thousand) young fish of medium-weight trout weighing 45.2 grams of Gegharkuni trout. The fish were released in the vicinity of the Karchaghbyur and Masrik rivers.
As of April 2020, a large number of fish stocks have been formed, in particular, small fish of various sizes, which it is advisable to release under natural conditions, as we do not want to overburden Lake Sevan by adding cage nets and fish stocks grown there.
It is expedient to release small fish starting from May-June in 2020 and continuing until October-November, resulting in the release of small size 200,000 young fish with different weights (1-40 g), and more than 300,000 young fish of summer trout and Gegharkuni subspecies weighing 1-2 g on average.
