What Kind of Projects Implemented for Lake Sevan for 2017 and 2018 with Funds Received from Sale of Electricity: Enquiry to TAI Minister

EcoLur Information NGO has sent an enquiry to the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan to find out what projects have been implemented for Lake Sevan with the funds received from the sale of electricity produced as a result of additional water intake in 2017 and 2018.

The enquiry says:

“Dear Mr. Suren Papikyan,

In 2018, 40 million cubic meters of water were taken from Lake Sevan during that period. With the resolution 42-N dated on January 17, 2019 the calculation and payment procedure for additional funds received from the sale of electricity generated by International Energy Corporation and Electric Networks of Armenia was set at the expense of water intake exceeding 170 million cubic meters from Lake Sevan in 2018.

Before that 1.6 billion drams of electricity generated from the sale of an additional 100 million cubic meters of water from Lake Sevan in 2017, however, was transferred from the extrabudgetary account to the state budget, according to RA Ministry of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources. All that money was intended to solve Lake Sevan problems.

In accordance with Article 6 of RA Law on Freedom of Information, please, provide us with the following information:

• How much funds from the sale of additional 40 million cubic meters of electricity from Lake Sevan in 2018 was generated?

• On which account was the amount after the liquidation of the Ministry of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources of Armenia, and what kind of projects were implemented for Lake Sevan with these funds or are planned to be implemented?

• What projects have been implemented for Lake Sevan in the amount of 1.6 billion drams generated from the sale of 100 million cubic meters of additional water from the lake in 2017?”
